When I hit Edit, the textboxes appear and I am able to edit my values. In the Row Editing function, the edit textboxes appear and I can get the "old" values Then the page renders, I edit the textboxes and hit Update. When I hit Update, the changes are not saved, and there is no error message. When I hit Update, the changes are not saved, and there is no error message. Then the page posts back, the text boxes go back to being labels and the new values are lost, and the Row Updating code never fires. Yes, I did put the breakpoint at the Row Updating line (and not in the function).

I removed everything I did with View State and edited the original post again with what I currently got. I cannot sort the Grid View because I'm trying to sort with Your code doesn't have Data Source ID.
I have a Gridview with Auto Generate Columns="False".
You could expose security holes or corrupt your own data using general exception handling like this.
Also i noticed one thing if i Auto Generate the Columns All events are fired without any problems but if i use Template Field only Edit Event is fired that is only once.
However wen I click on Update nothin happens, currently it isn't connected to the database I just want it to change the text of a button so I know the update works.
All was workin fine b4 I added the Update Panel and Content Template.
To cancel the update operation, set the collections, if necessary, before the values are passed to the data source.
A common way to use these collections is to HTML-encode the values supplied by the user before they are stored in the data source.
