I did not yet try running the downloaded flash player UNINSTALLER.g_cafe_c: Flash Player 26 WILL NOT finish installation, even as the offline installer. I have already gone through Control Panel of Windows to uninstall the NPAPI flash player, restarted computer, and then downloaded and ran the offline flashplayer version 26 installer ---- FAIL to finish installation.
Just an FYI that the latest online Adobe Flash Player v188.8.131.52 installer downloaded from https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ will fail half way through the installation if you have a Win XP SP3 or Vista SP2 operating system - see the thread in the Adobe forum.
Adobe is aware of the issue but the staff posting in that thread are warning that this bug in the online v26.x and higher installers might not be fixed.
In the mean time, I can confirm that the workaround posted in that thread to use the offline installers posted at the bottom of the support article Installation Problems | Flash Player | Windows 7 and Earlier (see the section titled Hi lmacri Thanks for the info.
I don't have windows xp and no windows vista but I still use the offline installers at the bottom of the link that I posted.
Follow steps a, b, and c for the following: C:\Windows\Sys WOW64\Macromed\Flash %appdata%\Adobe\Flash Player %appdata%\Macromedia\Flash Player ---- Next I guess is to use Firefox and go to adobe site, "get flash player" and that will let me download the NPAPI flash player, so planning this now/next. Would I have needed to delete more or other folders at higher levels than I just reported? Next I guess is to use Firefox and go to adobe site, "get flash player" and that will let me download the NPAPI flash player, so planning this now/next. Would I have needed to delete more or other folders at higher levels than I just reported? If you prefer to use the online stub installer (i.e.
the small download manager that manages the entire download and installation) from https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer it should work properly now.
here is the official Microsoft explanation and fix. If this is your setup, head over to the Microsoft Support page to download an update for your operating system. This topic was started back in January 2016 and most suggestions and downloads links for offline installers like https:// no longer relevant.
There was a temporary problem with the Adobe Flash Player installers back in June 2017 when Adobe Flash v184.108.40.206 was released [see the thread in the Adobe forum] but Adobe fixed that issue shortly after the bug was reported.
Anyone have any REAL solution, I'm interested, but still checking internet search, at least for a short time, to see if any other ideas posted/published. NOW, any way I can make the update or the installation happen? I do not want to cause removal of the Active X version.
I did not yet try running the downloaded flash player UNINSTALLER. I first want to make the update of the currenly missing NPAPI version for Firefox. I used the uninstall tool, restarted computer, checked Control Panel and Programs list, and no flash player found.
Removing ONLY the contents of the formulas as described in my previous post was done, and no other folders removal was necessary (The use of the RUN box and putting in the four different paths and removing folder contents). The adobe installation website gives some link how to download the installer if any trouble with the process, but that did not help; maybe because that only lets the user download the "stub" to their computer and then run this FROM their computer? The on-the-page installation for flashplayer update now works. Windows Control Panel; Flash Player manager item; click the updates tab; click button Check for Update. (Note, closing flash player control manager was NOT the problem the first or previous several times tried.
